Hi... I'm Meagan!
I’m Meagan Tauber... an author, educator, and longtime homeschool mom with more than a decade of homeschooling under my belt and 25+ years in education in a whole bunch of different roles.
A quick warning before we go any further... in The Mystery Three books, I keep my ADHD punctuation tendencies under control so early readers have clear, accessible text to work with. Here? You’re getting actual me... which means I’m letting the ellipses fly.
Thoughts inside of thoughts... inside of other thoughts... are kind of the signature style of my creative brain.
I’m also the co-host of Homeschool Moms Unfiltered, where Amanda Dunkin and I talk honestly about homeschooling, learning, parenting, and all the wonderfully messy stuff that comes with it.
I co-authored The Only Homeschool Book You Actually Need with Amanda Dunkin and Unschooling From Both Sides of the Story with my daughter Astrid Tauber, and I’m the author of 101 Comebacks to Homeschool Objections.
Most importantly, I’m mom to the three humans who have shaped the way I think about kids, learning, curiosity, and education. Aidan is a homeschool graduate, Pokémon lover, tinkerer, and avid fantasy reader who is happiest when he can get lost in deep thought. Astrid - another homeschool grad - is a fiber artist, published author with more than a dozen credits to her name, and fashion design university student whose creativity has been keeping our family on its toes since approximately forever. Liam loves penguins enough to be the reason I’ve been to Antarctica, has a brain that thrives on advanced math and science, and is a passionate Yu-Gi-Oh player.
As a family, we’ve spent summers traipsing around the U.S. in our camper van, visited more national parks than we can count, wandered through countless museums and historic sites, and traveled some pretty ridiculous distances because one of us learned about something and decided we absolutely had to see it in person.
That spirit of following curiosity wherever it leads is a pretty big part of how The Mystery Three came to be.

So... Why The Mystery Three?

The Mystery Three grew out of a few things I wanted to see more of in the books kids read.
#1 I wanted homeschooled kids to see themselves.
There are millions of homeschooled kids, but they rarely get to pick up a book and find characters whose everyday lives look a little like theirs. Nora, Oliver, and Rosie learn at home, but homeschooling isn’t the point of their stories. It’s simply part of who they are and how they move through the world. Every day they're following interests, asking questions, exploring places, and discovering that learning can happen just about anywhere.
#2 I wanted to share a different glimpse of homeschooling.
People who haven’t experienced homeschooling sometimes have some "interesting" (and often incorrect) ideas about what it looks like. The Harris family isn’t meant to represent every homeschool family - there’s far too much variety in this community for that - but I loved the idea that someone unfamiliar with homeschooling might stumble into these stories and get a little peek at a world filled with curiosity, connection, flexibility, and learning woven into everyday life.
And #3 I wanted their world to feel a little different.
There are plenty of wonderful books built around sibling rivalry, annoying little brothers and sisters, school struggles, mean teachers, bullies, and kids desperate to escape homework. Those stories have their place, but I wanted to make room for something else, too.
Like most siblings, Nora, Oliver, and Rosie have their moments, but fundamentally, they like each other. Rosie’s ideas matter even though she’s the youngest. Each sibling brings different strengths to the mystery and none of them could solve it quite as well alone.
Mostly, I wanted their world to feel hopeful... a place where kids are taken seriously, curiosity is worth following, differences are useful, families enjoy
